Parallel Loves
Estefanía (Fani) and Selina (Lina), daughters of a well-off family from Asturias—a region of rugged mountains and coal mines in northern Spain—live their days surrounded by images of saints crafted in their family’s religious art workshop and by dreams of the perfect marriage. But in Asturias in the 1930s love can never be just love: it is a matter of class, politics, and fate.
Fani falls in love with a Civil Guard—a member of Spain’s militarized police force, loyal to the conservative government and a symbol of state authority. Lina, her sister, falls for a young miner committed to the workers’ movement, part of the growing tide of socialist and anarchist activism that would culminate in the Asturian miners’ uprising of 1934.
Between incense and dynamite, between faith and rebellion, the sisters’ choices will shape not only their own destinies but also their entire family's. When revolution erupts, tragedy strikes, and resentment raises walls—even between sisters.
An unforgettable story about the strength of family bonds, the courage of women in turbulent political times, and the enduring power of memory in a land that still bears the scars of its past.
