Forugh Karimi

Forugh Karimi (1971, Kabul) fled the war in Afghanistan and arrived in the Netherlands at the age of 25. She continued her medical studies there and now runs her own practice as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist. She is also editor-in-chief of De Psychiater (the journal of the Dutch Association of Psychiatry) and is a member of the Council for the Dutch Language and Literature.

In 2022, Karimi made her debut with the novel The Mothers of Mahipar — which won the Hebban Debut Prize — followed in 2023 by the novella Nargis, both published by Meridiaan Uitgevers. With her second novel, In My Eyes I Carry Clouds (In mijn ogen draag ik wolken, 2025) she once again demonstrates her unique contribution to the Dutch literary landscape.
