"Caldas", the series adapting Domingo Villar's work, will air on Disney+

It is always such a pleasure to see the work of Pontas authors reach the screen! Caldas: The Last Ferry is a new six-episode crime thriller coming in late 2026 to Disney+ (Spain). Based on the bestselling novel by Domingo Villar, The Last Ferry, the series brings to the small screen one of the most beloved detectives in contemporary Spanish fiction, Inspector Leo Caldas. The adaptation was produced by Secuoya Studios exclusively for Disney+ and was developed with Villar’s own involvement before his passing in 2022, giving the project a special emotional depth for fans and readers of the author’s work.

The story follows Inspector Leo Caldas, played by Javier Gutiérrez, and his new partner Estévez, portrayed by Hovik Keuchkerian, as they investigate the disappearance of Mónica Andrade, the daughter of a prominent surgeon in Vigo. What initially appears to be a straightforward missing-person case soon unfolds into a complex web of family secrets, political interference, media pressure, and personal conflicts that force Caldas to confront his own past. The cast also includes María Pujalte, Antonio Mourelos, Alejandra Onieva, and Miryam Gallego.

Filmed on location in Vigo, the series showcases the Galician city as an essential part of the story, capturing many of the real-life locations that readers associate with Caldas’s investigations. The adaptation was directed by Jorge Saavedra and the screenplay was written by Goya Award-winning Eligio R. Montero. With its atmospheric setting, strong cast, and faithful connection to Villar’s literary universe, Caldas: The Last Ferry aims to become one of Disney+’s most ambitious Spanish productions and a major new addition to the platform’s growing catalog of original Spanish-language thrillers.
