Tundra Airport
1 September 1939. Captain Stig Blumfors lands at a small, isolated military airfield deep in Swedish Lapland, carrying sealed orders: war has broken out, Sweden has declared its neutrality, and the airfield is to be cut off from the outside world. Thus begins a long and gruelling confinement, punctuated by the arrival of lost or distressed British and German aircraft. Faced with an ambiguous commanding officer, and between patrols across the tundra, Blumfors begins to write.
12 February 2023. As Sweden’s accession to NATO is being blocked by Turkey, Captain Guy Puech and his company of French paratroopers begin a month of Arctic warfare exercises at the former airfield, now a Swedish army training centre, under the command of Captain Maria-Pia Tedelius. Then a notebook that had belonged to Blumfors is discovered and its contents will profoundly alter their understanding of history and their relationships with one another.
Between these two timelines lies the mystery of Lieutenant Vivarès, the struggle of the reindeer herders, the silences of the old Sami woman Mirjá, and a nation's honour.
A gripping story of heroism and espionage, love and betrayal. A cast of characters by turns hateful and deeply compelling, inhabiting a rich and vibrant world. Tundra Airport shows Olivier Truc at the height of his craft, once again.
