Adrift in Warsaw

Having left Barcelona to move to Warsaw with his wife, Alma, and their five-year-old daughter, Martina, Gus finds himself alone at home while Alma works long hours. His days are filled with breakfasts, school runs, housework and childcare, while a novel he dreams of writing remains stubbornly unwritten.

Gus struggles to inhabit the roles expected of him. Intelligent and sensitive but plagued by self-doubt, he is a devoted father whose protectiveness can become suffocating, and a loving husband who often fails to say what he truly feels.

Everything begins to change when he meets Irena, a neighbour approaching her hundredth birthday who survived the destruction of Warsaw during the war. Through her, Gus learns that some losses never fully heal, yet can become part of a life lived on.

As the distance between him and Alma grows, an unsettling atmosphere begins to creep into his carefully ordered routine. Martina’s school caretaker regards him with suspicion, an inexplicable smell spreads through the apartment, and Gus becomes increasingly obsessed with the abandoned house across the street.

Gradually, he realizes that the emptiness haunting him does not reside in that house, but within himself. And unless he is willing to confront what he has spent so long avoiding, he risks losing himself entirely.
