Wana Udobang
Wana Udobang is a writer, poet, performer, curator and storyteller based between Lagos and London. As a poet/performer, she has released three spoken word albums Dirty Laundry, In Memory of Forgetting and Transcendence taking her across Africa, Europe, Middle East and North America with commissions from the Edinburgh International Festival, Deutsches Museum, Fonds SozioKultur, The Global Fund for Community Foundations, The Museum Of West African Arts and the Gates Foundation.
As a journalist she has worked with the Guardian, CNN, BBC, Observer, Aljazeera, Index On Censorship and Roads & Kingdoms, receiving fellowships and grants from the Gabriel Garcia Marquez Foundation, the International Women’s Media Foundation, European Journalism Council, International Reporting Fellowship and a One World Media Awards nomination. For over six years she worked as a popular radio host at 92.3 Inspiration FM in Lagos broadcasting to over five million listeners daily
She was awarded a Ford Foundation grant for her multi-media traveling exhibition Dirty Laundry. She runs The Comfort Food Storytelling Workshop which uses food memories to inspire new stories, alongside other curatorial work exploring food, memory, identity and the body.
Added to her artistic and storytelling practice, she lectures, facilitates trainings and works as a storytelling communications consultant for museums, organisations and non-profits. She is a recipient of the Ama Ata Aidoo Fellowship at Northwestern University and the Camargo Foundation Fellowship.
