Irene Muchemi-Ndiritu

Irene Muchemi-Ndiritu was born in Nairobi in 1977. She moved to the United States to attend college in San Diego. She graduated with a BA International Relations (cum laude) and later received an MA in Journalism from Columbia University. Irene has worked as a journalist in New York City, Washington DC and Boston. In 2017, she graduated with an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Cape Town (Distinction). Irene was shortlisted for the 2019 Commonwealth Short Story Prize and was a nominee for the 2020 Caine Prize for African Writing. Irene lives in Cape Town with her husband and three kids. Lucky Girl is her first novel.
