Ways of Drowning
Author: Christiana Spens
Oscar Lane met Elvira James at a dinner party held by his best friend Tom Pine. Now, they’re getting married in the idyllic town of St Andrews on the Scottish eastern coast.
Everything is ready and carefully arranged for the wedding—the dress, the flowers, the bridesmaids. The weather seems to be the only uncontrollable odd. When Oscar is found dead, however, in the hydrotherapy suite of the hotel’s spa, the morning before the ceremony, everything falls apart for Elvira and their friends.
But Oscar was full of secrets, as quickly becomes apparent, going back to their years at Cambridge. When two local police detectives start investigating, and the wedding party looks for clues (whilst drowning their sadness in whiskey), suspicion falls directly on the bride.
Will Elvira be able to stop secrets in both their personal lives coming out and incriminating them further? As rivalries and resentments implode within the wedding party, it becomes clear that everyone is suspicious and no one is safe—and that there is more than one way to drown.
A gripping story of love, addiction and snobbery, fusing psychological suspense with the tropes of a classic ‘whodunnit’.
