The Door of the Courtyard (Bab al-Saha), focuses on the years of the first Intifada in the city of Nablus, with which the author is quite familiar. Khalifah addresses the issue of class differences in a city known for its bourgeois tendencies as she gives the major role to a woman of ill-repute.
