Bedchamber's Conversations

We are in the preludes of the Spanish Civil War. Three women strive to place their husbands at the height of power: Pilar, an unconditional supporter of her brother José Antonio Primo de Rivera, the founder of the fascist party Falange; Mercedes, educated, intelligent, loud and proud admirer of German Nazism and the wife of Onésimo Redondo (the founder of JONS, another famous fascist party that would merge with Falange); and Carmen Polo, the wife of future dictator Francisco Franco, who never gave up until she managed to fulfill her dream of living in a palace, surrounded by humble servants and all kind of treasures.

Aiming at preserving the “fundamental values that every nation must possess”, and deeming that Spain was loosing them, the three of them will work in the shade, in the nest of their homes, as the closest partners of the men who were conspiring and fighting to overthrow the Republic and establish a new regime. This novel sheds light on their persevering and ambitious involvement in the fascist cause, from the intimacy they shared with the leading actors of that time.
