Camarón is the cinematographic reconstruction of the biography of the genius of flamenco music: José Monge Cruz, who is known worldwide as Camarón de la Isla. It is a journey through his life and oeuvre, a close look at this brilliant cantaor (flamenco singer) who innovated flamenco, influenced the new generations and broke down social and artistic barriers. His wishes, his successes and his struggles are ingredients of a personal trajectory that are reflected in his peculiar understanding of making music.
Camarón is divided into three stages: the discovery, the confirmation and the acknowledgement-farewell. In each of them, Camarón de la Isla appears with the support of figures such as Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, Paco Cepero and his wife “La Chispa”. The role as the protagonist is entrusted to Óscar Jaenada, who achieved a truly surprising likeness to the legendary Cádiz cantaor (flamenco singer). This work has won him the Goya award for the best actor.
