| Tim Parfitt was born in England in 1960 and clearly remembers falling in love with Spain at the age of seven. He has worked in magazine publishing for 24 years, mainly with the Condé Nast group (worldwide publishers of Vogue, GQ, and Vanity fair, among others). At the same time, he has written three novels and numerous magazine articles. In early 1988, not speaking a word of Spanish, he was sent to Madrid to help launch Vogue España. His initial stay was six weeks, but he ended up spending nearly nine years there, launching several other magazines in Spain, including GQ and Casa Vogue, becoming Condé Nast's Managing Director at the age of 34. Set in Madrid, the romantic comedy Madrid, Madrid! is his first original screenplay. He is also working on a novel version. A non-fiction work, This Spanish Thing is also a very funny, vivid and revealing ‘memoir’ of his time in Spain. It is ‘part-travel book and part how-to (and how-not-to) adapt to life in the Spanish city whilst launching a glossy magazine in the back-stabbing fashion world -- rather than an ex-pat’s tale of remodeling an old house in the country.’ Tim is married with five children and intends to return with the whole family to live in Spain permanently mid-2003. |
