| Born in 1918 in Barcelona to a Catalan mother and an Indian father who was a leader in India’s independence movement. A philosopher and theologist who has been a Catholic priest, a Hindu, a Buddhist and a secularist, Raimon Panikkar has taught at universities in Madrid, Rome, Massachusetts (Harvard) and Santa Barbara. A gifted and original thinker, Panikkar’s contributions to comparative religion and Christian theology have made him a pioneer in East-West and intra-religious dialogues. He is the author of a large number of works.
