Biography Parvati Nair
Parvati Nair was born in Oslo in 1961. Of Indian origin, she grew up in Norway, India, Poland, Morocco, Tunisia and Spain. She has lived in London since arriving there to commence university and subsequently completed both a Masters degree and a PhD in Spanish Cultural Studies at the University of London. Her ties with Spain remain very strong, however, and she frequently spends time in the Valle de Lecrín, south of Granada.

She is currently Professor of Hispanic Cultural Studies at Queen Mary, University of London, where she teaches on twentieth-century Spanish literature, film and photography, as well as on issues related to migration. Her academic publications include Configuring Community: Theories, Narratives and Practices of Community Identities in Contemporary Spain (2004) and Rumbo al norte: inmigración y movimientos culturales entre el Magreb y España (2006). She is currently writing a book, entitled A Different Light, on the work of the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado. Unspeakable is her first novel.
