Francesc Escribano was born in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) in 1958. He is graduated in Journalism for the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has worked as a teacher of Audiovisual Communication in the Universitat Autònoma and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He has also been a radiospeaker and worked in the press but he mainly works in television since twenty-five years ago. Recently, he has been the managing director of the Catalan Television from 2004 to 2008.
He has published several books, amongst them Descalç sobre la terra vermella. Vida del bisbe Pere Casaldàliga, winner of Gaziel Prize of biographies and memoirs in 1999, translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and German. His last book was published in 2001, entitled Compte enrere. La història de Salvador Puigantich, originally published in Catalan and translated into Spanish and Japanese. In 2006 an audiovisual adaptation directed by Manuel Huerga of Compte enrere was released under the title Salvador. The scriptwriter, Lluís Arcarazo, received the Goya Prize for best script.
Francesc Escribano has received several prizes in the course of his his career, amongst them Omnium Cultural of television, Ciutat de Barcelona Prize, two international Ondas in 1994 and 1996, the National Prize of Journalism in 2000 and Talento Prize in 2006 handled by the Spanish Television for his professional career.
